Lake Roosevelt Young Life

YLministry is about sharing our experience of living the incarnate life. Of fulfilling Jesus' command to go into all the world and preach the Gospel. God has given us the pleasure of working with adolescents, and we would like to share where we have been and where God is leading us.

  • How do we find Jesus In Acts 10 we find Cornelius a centurion interacting with the Apostle Peter. In acts we find Cornelius to be a devout and God fearing man, one who gave to the poor and prayed regularly. One day the angel of the Lord appeared to Cornelius, telling him to find peter and bring peter to talk to him.  Peter came and Cornelius was filled with the Holy spirit. The question is, was Cornelius' devoutness what saved him? In this story we see a righteous man, who is still in need of a savior. We see a righteous man who has found grace in the eyes of the Lord, because God graciously sent the angel to him. God sent him the angel ...

  • Hosea: Are we Whoring against God? Once again I was listening to a podcast, and they talked about the prophet Hosea, and how God had told him to marry a whore. I thought it was an interesting listen. I also thought that it would be a good way to help the kids see God outside of the box that they have placed him in. It has been my experience that current generation Christians struggle with the God of the old testament. They struggle with a God that had his people commit genocide. They struggle with a God that gets angry, and a God that would tell his servant to marry a whore. The idea with this talk is not to cover all of those things, but ...

  • Love God with everything that you are When God asks us to love someone, he is working on changing who we are. He is working on us, he is making us into the person that he created us to be. So When God says love your neighbor as yourself, he is also saying that he will help us to love them. When God says love me with everything that you are, he is saying I will give you my love, and you can love me back with it. in so doing he is teaching us how to love. If we were expected to be able to do it on our own we would be screwed. Instead our loving God becomes a consequence/reward of our salvation. This ...

  • Love your neighbor as yourself At some point during the week, I heard a podcast where a guy told his story of his life and his neighbor. The story was pretty good, and that got me to thinking about doing a campaigners lesson on loving your neighbor. When Jesus was asked what is the greatest commandment, he said Love God with everything you are, and love your neighbor as yourself. In Jesus' time like now, people liked to discuss theological ideals. When Jesus answered "and the second is likewise, love your neighbor as yourself" this was one of the typical responses, the other response was, be holy as God is holy. Jesus was making the point that Loving your neighbor is of utmost importance. In ...

  • Making Oaths At some point in our life we get desperate, or we desire something so much that we plead with God for it. As a result many make a deal with God, they say God is you give me this, then I will or I wont do this. This is dangerous for two reasons, one because God will expect you to keep that promise, and two God doesn't want you to make deals, he wants you do seek after him with your whole heart.   If you God is your treasure, and you are seeking him like he is a pearl of great price, then you will not plead with him to give you that something that will comfort you. You ...

  • Agape Unconditional Love When CS Lewis talks about charity or agape, he doesn’t really go into what and agape looks like. He talks about realizing that agape is the way we should love and the only way to be able to love that way is to be transformed through Jesus. He talks about how it is easy for us to take love and either focus on it to much and thus love to much, or to not focus on it and love to little. Even if we were able to love perfectly without God we would still be missing the part where we love God. Agape is an unconditional Love, or as I like to call it the God Love, ie the ...

  • Eros: Being in Love Today’s world is plastered with sex. Sex sells, and it sells well. The problem is that I believe this deceives people into believe that Venus is Eros. I use Venus instead of Sex because sex is an act, but with Venus our ideas associated with this word are not as clear in our minds eye. Sex is an act, but Venus can become a being, or entity. I am hoping this will allow us to show how sex, ie Venus becomes a false God. That Venus deceives us, it promises us a fulfilled life, but instead steals it.    Eros      (Being in Love)Eros in its infancy is considered falling in love, and a lot of people think that this ...

  • Affection Love Affection is one of the loves we usually use to refer to our favorite pair of pants. It’s the type of love that we usually have towards a family pet. Affection isn't one that I think we spend a lot of time trying to figure out. Affection for the most part seems to just be. However like everything it can be distorted beyond its original purpose. The idea with this topic is to show some of the ways it can be misused, but primarily to show how affection should be used. Storge (Affection Love)It’s the type of love we use when we talk about our favorite shoes, shirt, pants…Affection can be described as the “most ...
